What is the purpose of the NYU HIFU clinical trial?
HIFU is being studied around the world to treat all types of cancer and soft tissue diseases. It has been approved as a medical treatment abroad, but is still under investigation in the United States and is awaiting FDA approval.
The phase III clinical trial at NYU Urology is part of the FDA approval process. HIFU has been tested for safety and has also been tested in a small number of men with prostate cancer to determine the optimal dose. This phase III study will further evaluate the efficacy and safety of HIFU as a therapy for prostate cancer.
