NYU Urology Earns Spot on U.S. News & World Report’s List of Top 20 Urology Departments in America
July 17, 2009
For the third year in a row, the Department of Urology of NYU Langone Medical Center was named among the top 25 urology departments in the United States in the "Best Hospitals" edition of U.S. News and World Report.
This year, NYU Urology rose to #20 on the list, out of a total of more than 4,000 hospitals analyzed for the 2009–2010 edition.
The U.S. News list reflects hospitals’ ability to handle complex cases, as well as the department’s esteem among peers. The ranking is based partially on the department’s reputation among other board-certified specialists, 200 of whom were randomly polled for each specialty. Also taken into account are the quality and quantity of nursing and patient services, the use of technologically advanced medical equipment, mortality rate, and patient safety.
Reflecting the high quality of care offered throughout the institution, NYU Langone Medical Center made the "Honor Roll" in this year's survey, meaning that it was ranked at or near the top in at least six medical specialties.
