Six NYU Urologists Are Among New York's Top Doctors For 2009

New York's Top Doctors

Six NYU urologists have been recognized by their peers as top doctors in New York for 2009.

Dr. Herbert Lepor, Dr. Victor Nitti and Dr. Samir Taneja were named to New York Magazine's 12th annual "Best Doctors" list for 2009. In addition, Dr. Ellen Shapiro, Dr. Andrew McCullough and Dr. Michael Stifelman were named to Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors–New York Metro Area" list for 2009.

To compile the list, New York magazine collaborated with Castle Connolly, a research and publishing company. Thousands of top physicians in the New York area completed a survey that asked them to nominate top doctors in almost every specialty. Castle Connolly then refined the list based on interviews with leading specialists, chiefs of service and other hospital personnel, and published a guidebook, Top Doctors: New York Metro. The magazine's "Best Doctors" list is a shorter version of the guidebook.

Dr. Lepor and Dr. Taneja are also featured in Castle Connolly's "America's Top Doctors for Cancer" and Dr. Nitti, Dr. McCullough, Dr. Lepor and Dr. Taneja in Castle Connolly's "America's Top Doctors".

In addition to the "Best Doctors" list, four NYU urologists were named to the 2009 'SuperDocs' list: Dr. Lepor, Dr. Nitti, Dr. Taneja and Dr. Ojas Shah, Director of Endourology and Stone Disease.
