Dr. Stephen Scionti
The Department of Urology at NYU School of Medicine welcomes Dr. Stephen Scionti as Director of Ablative Prostate Cancer Surgery.
Dr. Scionti’s clinical and research interests center on the diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer. He is one of the most experienced physicians in the United States in high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), an experimental therapy for localized prostate cancer. Dr. Scionti is also an expert in cryosurgery (controlled freezing of cancerous tissue). He has trained hundreds of urologists internationally in both HIFU and cryosurgery.
Dr. Scionti received his M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his urology residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He served as a Lt. Commander in the US Navy Medical Corps at the Charleston Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Dr. Scionti is a member of the American Urological Association and the International HIFU Society. He holds dual appointments as Clinical Associate Professor of Urology at NYU and Director of Cryosurgery and Minimally Invasive Prostate Surgery at the Coastal Carolina Urology Group, a private urology practice in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
