About the Integrative Urological Center
The Integrative Urological Center at NYU Langone Medical Center complements mainstream medical care and address the nutritional, emotional, social, and psychological needs of patients with urologic conditions. Our services include:
- Classes on nutrition, stress management and exercise
- Outpatient care with alternative therapies
- Research, education and training for patients and physicians
The guiding principle at the Integrative Urological Center (IUC) is to offer the most effective treatment and the highest quality of care for people with urologic conditions and urologic cancers. Our experienced practitioners are appropriately trained and certified. Integrative medicine combines the discipline of modern science with the wisdom of ancient healing. For people living with chronic or life-threatening illnesses, it can transform the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of their lives. Integrative medicine can also be valuable to those who are not ill but wish to increase self-awareness, enhance well-being, and help prevent health-related problems.
Our mission
The mission of the IUC is threefold:
- To educate patients and healthcare professionals about holistic treatments for urologic conditions
- To improve the health of patients suffering from urologic conditions through treatment with natural, non-toxic therapies
- To evaluate the effectiveness of a wide range of holistic therapies through rigorous basic science and clinical research
Education
The IUC offers many educational opportunities for healthcare professionals and patients with an interest in learning and practicing the principles of integrative medicine.
Clinical care
The IUC specializes in creating integrative plans for treatment and prevention of urologic conditions ranging from bladder cancer to chronic conditions such as interstitial cystitis and prostatitis.
Research
A primary goal of the IUC is to conduct rigorous scientific research on the integration of complementary and alternative therapies with conventional medicine. We focus on studying alternative therapies and “natural” agents alone or in combination with conventional therapies from a basic science and clinical research perspective.
