About Dr. Scionti
Stephen M. Scionti, M.D. earned his B.S. in Neural Sciences and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University. He was awarded his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, where he participated in the "Scholars in Medicine" program. Dr. Scionti completed his urology residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center and received the Outstanding Presentation Award at the annual meeting of the Society of University Urology Residents.
Following his urology training, Dr. Scionti joined the US Navy and was commissioned in 1990 as a Lt. Commander in the Medical Corps. After completing his Naval service, Dr. Scionti relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and established a full-time private urology practice dedicated to the minimally invasive treatment of urologic disease. In addition to his faculty position at NYU, Dr. Scionti is the managing partner and Director of Cryosurgery and Minimally Invasive Prostate Surgery at the Coastal Carolina Urology Group and serves as Director of The International Center for Men's Health in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Dr. Scionti’s clinical and research interests are focused on the accurate diagnosis and the minimally invasive treatment of prostate cancer. He participates in a national prostate cryotherapy computerized database to continually monitor results, complications and quality of life in his cryotherapy patients. Dr. Scionti is also the North American physician representative to the Sonablate International HIFU Registry.
Dr. Scionti has played a major role in training urologists throughout the world in minimally invasive therapies for prostate cancer. As a Course Director for the USHIFU physician training program, he helped develop the training program that leads to certification in HIFU for American urologists. He is also closely involved in training urologists in the use of cryotherapy for the treatment of prostate cancer; he has instructed over 200 physicians in this procedure and serves as Course Director for Endocare.
Dr. Scionti is a member of the American Urological Association and the International HIFU Society.
