How New York Magazine compiles the list

New York Magazine and Castle Connolly compile the list by surveying thousands of top physicians in the New York area, asking them to nominate top doctors in their field. Castle Connolly then refines the list based on interviews with leading specialists, chiefs of service and other hospital personnel, and publishes a guidebook, Top Doctors: New York Metro. New York Magazine's 'Best Doctors' list is a shorter version of the guidebook.
